neighbourhood gardens

In my neighbourhood, traffic-calming has been achieved pretty successfully by the use of barriers on the streets so that car drivers can’t take a direct route and so are less likely to whiz through the area, but pedestrians and cyclists and wheelchair users can travel freely throughout. A few of these barriers consist simply of posts stuck into the road, but many of them are wonderful little spots that have been transformed into beautiful gardens. I love seeing these places as I stroll around the neighbourhood, and I’m very grateful to the local people who keep the flowers looking so lovely.

  1. These traffic circles are so much nicer than the old-style concrete ones. I’m excited that the City is changing its bylaws to promote food gardens on the verges, as well.

  2. I didn’t know about the food gardens — great to hear that!
